PREMIER SPORTS HOME TO LIVE TOP 14 RUGBY EVERY WEEKEND
One week to go before live TOP 14 coverage gets underway
UK and Ireland rugby supporters will be able to enjoy live coverage of French Rugby’s world renowned TOP 14 competition once again with four top-billing games from the competition shown live every weekend on Premier Sports.
It’s just one week to go until the first matches get underway and next Saturday’s TOP 14 showcase on Premier Sports 1 could not get any more exciting. It’s an all Paris derby day as Stade Francais meet Racing 92 on Saturday 4th September (live on Premier Sports 1 from 5.15pm) followed by ambitious Toulon hosting European Challenge Cup champions Montpellier (live on Premier Sports 1 from 8pm).
Sunday seems another thrilling double bill as Lyon face Clermont Auvergne (Premier Sports 1 from 4.45pm) and last year’s TOP 14 and European Champions Cup finalists go head-to-head again in a season opener as La Rochelle host champions Toulouse.
France’s TOP 14, renowned throughout the world as one of the most intense club rugby competitions showcase the world’s best players from across France, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina, the UK and Australia.
Rugby fans across the UK and Ireland will now be able to tune-in weekly to see action from all 26 rounds of the competition as they watch France’s top club teams battle it out for the coveted TOP 14 title and to lift the Brennus Shield.
Premier Sports new rights agreement with TOP 14 includes a two-year deal for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons with the pick of four live games each and a weekly TOP 14 highlights show on Monday nights at 8pm. TOP 14 rugby will be shown across a mix of its channels Premier Sports 1 & 2.
Joining the TOP 14 this season will be newly-promoted Biarittz and last season’s ProD2 winners Perpignan who will both want good starts knowing how intense and competitive the first season back in the French top flight can be. They join some Europe’s finest clubs including Toulouse, La Rochelle, Racing 92, ASM Clermont Auvergne, Bordeaux Bègles, Stade Français, Toulon, Castres, Lyon, Montpellier, Brive and Pau.
At La Rochelle, Ronan O’Gara takes over the reins in the top job from Jono Gibbs who moves to Clermont. The highly- respected O’Gara has brought in fellow Munster man and recently retired 47-cap second row Donnacha Ryan as Forwards Coach. Other Irish moves sees Prop James Cronin leave Munster to join newly promoted Biarittz while Simon Zebo goes back to Munster from Racing 92.
Stade Francais are looking to keep momentum under Gonzalo Quesada and have made a star signing to bring All Black inside centre Ngani Laumape into their fold.
Toulon are showing their ambition with some heavy recruiting over the summer including Leone Nakarawa, Quinn Roux, Cornell du Preez and Lopeti Timani who will boost the pack plus headline news that South African Cheslin Kolbe will join from Toulouse once this year’s Springbok duties end.
At Toulouse under Ugo Mola, France’s summer tour captain Anthony Jelonch joins from Castres along with a boost to the back line with Tim Nanai-Williams.
